Until December 2003, only two "comprehensive" biographies had been written for adult readers, although many children's books feature Tubman. Five recent biographies – the most complete and thoroughly researched books on Tubman – have now been published. They have greatly advanced our picture of the historic figure of Harriet Tubman.
