The main identified places in Harriet Tubman's life and work are Dorchester County, Maryland, where she was born and grew up, and Auburn, New York, her home for nearly 50 years. In addition, Tubman is known to have worked in many other places, during the Underground Railroad period when she was escorting former slaves out of the south, and during the Civil War when she worked for the Union army.

There are many Underground Railroad sites in the country, but only a few are connected with Tubman. Likewise there are Tubman sites which have no relationship with the Underground Railroad. Our study will focus only on Tubman sites.

The success of this special resource study depends on information from those who have particular knowledge of Tubman and the places where she lived and worked. We would like your help in identifying these places. Your suggestions will be pursued by the study team and subjected to expert analysis and park system criteria and will help shape the special resource study's recommendations.

Tell the study team about sites you know of.
